New La Causerie Contact Information
Please read! La Causerie has a new phone number and email contact. The new number is 816-301-4110. If you leave a message, it will go directly to our board assistant, Amanda. Any message will appear as a voicemail, an email and a text message- making communicating much simpler and allowing Amanda to keep all communications in one place. Our new email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Please direct all questions and suggestions to these new contacts.
Please remember there will NOT be classes the day following Thanksgiving, on Friday November 25th. Enjoy your holiday, have safe travels, and we will see everyone back on Friday, December 2nd.
**Parking on December 2nd** Please allow extra time to find parking on the 2nd. The church will be setting up for their annual Journey to Bethlehem program, so space will be slightly limited.
Upcoming Italian & French Programs
December 2nd: David Marker will present Folk Music of Southern Italy. In addition to playing the Zampoga (Italian bagpipe), Organetto (diatonic button accordion) and the Marranzanu (Jew’s harp), he will explain the instruments and their cultural origins. Please note this presentation will be in English- so all are welcome!
December 9th: Ann Miller will present two 20th century French artists and their work, and lead a discussion about both the artist’s intent and your interpretation. She will also play 20th century music to draw a comparison between the art and music of the time. This presentation is appropriate for all levels of French study and Ann will provide vocabulary and terms to encourage an active discussion of French art and culture.
We hope you will be able to join us for these presentations. In addition, if you have an idea for a future program- please let us know! We are always looking for new and interesting presentations for students to enjoy.
Know Anyone Still Interested In Classes?
With our enrollment slightly lower than previous terms, we encourage you to continue spreading the word about our language classes. We still have openings in all three languages, and are handling enrollment on a rolling basis with prorated tuition rates depending on the new student's start date. Please direct any potential student to the La Causerie website for more information and THANK YOU for the students we already have- we realize a majority of our enrollment is due to continual support and word of mouth from our members.
This year’s holiday party will be Friday, December 16th, right before we break for the winter holidays. Food will be potluck style- so any holiday favorites you want to share would be greatly appreciated!
Enjoy the weekly coffee and snacks? Please remember that these items are donated by members. If you are interested in volunteering snacks, there is a sign up sheet for Friday mornings in the Social Room. You will not be expected to feed the whole school- three or four other members will contribute, too. La Causerie provides the coffee and tea and we ask for donations to help cover the beverage costs, which are not allotted in the La Causerie budget.
Make Sure You’re Listed In The Livret!
A list of the names and addresses of La Causerie members will be available in the social room, at the nametag table and in the Calvin Center for you to check if you have not already done so. Please be sure all of your contact information is correct, including the language you are enrolled in.
With cold weather rapidly approaching, please remember that we follow the snow day guidelines used by the Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD). If the weather is inclement, please check the local news and radio for school closings. If SMSD has a snow day- so does La Causerie!
