*Classes Have Begun!*
Our new school year is successfully underway! Classes are off to a
productive start and our new teachers, May Mannant (French), Sylvie Hogg
Murphy (Italian) and Paula Mitre (Spanish) are each doing a great job in
their respective new posts.
*School Year Reminders*
Please continue to leave the Crestwood shop’s parking spaces for their
patrons. We understand parking can be hard to come by but, to be neighborly,
please allow extra time to find a space in the church parking lot or along
Also, if you enjoy the treats provided each week, please realize these items
are donated by members. If you are interested in volunteering snacks, there
is a sign up sheet for Friday mornings in the Social Room. You will not be
expected to feed the whole school- three or four other members will
contribute, too. La Causerie provides the coffee and tea and we ask for
donations to help cover the beverage costs, which are not allotted in the La

We are in need of two volunteers! One to be in charge of Italian Programs
and one to take charge of French Programs. If you are interested, please
talk to any of our board members.
*Fall Business Meeting*
Please note our fall business meeting is scheduled for *Friday, October 21st
*. Each year there are two meetings to which all members are welcome to
attend. The business meeting is relatively short, and is a great opportunity
for any member to give input to the La Causerie organization. You’ll get to
meet the officers who manage our organization, see our operating budget and
its allocations, get updated on enrollment and learn about plans for
*Spanish Film Festival at the Rio Theatre*
Presented by Sociedad Hidalgo, in collaboration with the Kansas City-Morelia
Sister Cities Committee, there are two films remaining in this month-long
Latin American Cinema Festival:
*September 24th*: Dos Hermanos (Brother & Sister), Argentina, 2010
* October 1st*: El Método (The Method), Spain, 2005
The Rio Theatre is located in Overland Park, at 7204 W 80th St. Theatre
doors open at 10:30 am, programs start at 11. Tickets are $6.00 per person.
All films are in Spanish with English subtitles, and each film is followed
by a group discussion.
*Day of the Dead program at the Nelson-Atkins*
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art has partnered with the Mexican Consulate of
Kansas Ctiy for their Dia de los Muertos presentation. Gregorio Luke, an
expert on Mexican and Latin American culture, will be presenting on the
customs and rituals of Mexico’s Day of the Dead.
* Sunday, October 30th*: Dia de los Muertos, 2 pm, Atkins Auditorium.

*Congratulations to Shannon Tumanut!*
Shannon, one of our French instructors, had a baby girl on August 2nd. Her
name is Annabelle Grace and we could not be happier for her!
